James R. Ettinger

James Robert Ettinger, 86, passed November 2, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara nee Selke; loving father of Tina Marie (Galen) Cooper; proud grandfather of Alexandria, Eddie, and Angelina; cherished step-grandfather of Christopher, David and Mitchell; favorite uncle of Kenton Hotte and Linda (Jon) Hajdu. James grew up in Glen Ellyn and resided in Wheaton as an adult. As a child he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. As a youth he worked at Sunset Pool in Glen Ellyn where he taught generations how to swim. He graduated from Glenbard Township High School in 1948 where he was awarded with All Conference, All Chicago Area, All State for football. He was proud of his time with the Wheaton Jaycees, and was Past State President. He was a past member of the Elmhurst Ski Club, where he taught skiing and won numerous dancing competitions. Some of his hobbies included bowling, art, the Bears, the Cubs, his favorite pets and his family. Visitation at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home, 17w201 Roosevelt Rd., Oakbrook Terrace on Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 4-8pm where a funeral service will take place on Friday at 11am.
