It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Kathleen Alice Witzemann, who left us peacefully on October 31, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by family. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Kathleen touched the lives of everyone she encountered with her warmth, kindness, creativity, and adventurous spirit.
Born on March 28, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, Kathleen was a woman of boundless love and limitless talent. She was the heart of her family, always nurturing and caring for those she loved.
Kathleen met her husband of 60 years, William Witzemann, in Stickney, IL at the Socal Stickney Hall social event—a blind date arranged by her parents. She stood at the top of the stairs, William at the bottom, and in that moment, a lifelong love-at-first-sight connection was made. Married a little over a year later, they spent their newlywed year in Leominster, Massachusetts, eventually settling in Lombard, Illinois, in 1967. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with endless love, laughter, adventure, and cherished memories.
Kathleen was an avid traveler, exploring destinations around the globe with William. Together, they embraced new experiences and gathered countless stories that she loved to share with others.
A talented painter and seamstress, Kathleen possessed a rare and extraordinary creative gift. Whether she was painting vibrant landscapes, crocheting colorful afghans, baking a myriad of holiday cookies, or creating beautiful clothing, her artistic touch shone through in everything she did.
After skipping grades and graduating early, Kathleen’s career began at the Westside VA Hospital where she worked for many years before dedicating herself to raising her children. She later returned to work, spending many more years at Now Foods, Shasta Beverages, and Navistar.
Though we mourn her passing, we find solace in knowing that her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the beautiful artwork she left behind, and the memories she created with those she loved. Kathleen’s spirit will forever remain in our hearts—a reminder of her boundless love, creativity, and joy for life.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, William Walter Witzemann; her sister, Linda (Philip) Salomone; her children, Leanndra (Joseph) Bowen, Kelley Witzemann (John Tuhey), and William (Beth) Witzemann; her grandchildren, Kristina Bowen (Edgar Valle), Matthew Tuhey, Maxwell Witzemann, Mallory Witzemann, and Liam Tuhey; and her great-grandchild, Elliot Valle. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Charlotte (Moroney) Krush.
A celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held on November 24th, 2025 beginning at 9:00 am at Chapel Hill Gardens West, 17W201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace, IL. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, make a donation to The American Cancer Society in Kathleen's name.
May she rest in peace, and may her love and light continue to shine in our lives forever.
