Mary Helen Case, of Oak Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on September 21, 1965, in Elbridge, New York, Mary grew up surrounded by a large family and a community that nurtured her early passion for music.
Mary’s remarkable musical talent led her to pursue piano performance at Ithaca College, followed by graduate studies in piano performance at Northwestern University. After beginning her professional life teaching piano to many young children across the Chicago area, she discovered a second calling in the field of psychology. With characteristic determination, perseverance, and grace, she earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology and went on to build a thriving private practice. Over a 25-year career, she cared for and guided hundreds of patients, touching countless lives through her deep empathy, steady presence, and thoughtful expertise.
Mary will be remembered for her kindness, her forgiving spirit, and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She approached life with quiet strength and abundant generosity. An accomplished gardener, she found joy and pride in cultivating her many flowers, creating beauty wherever she lived. She cherished travel and quiet time and delighted in every moment she spent with her beloved daughter. She always gave selflessly of herself to those for whom she cared.
Mary is survived by her husband, John Mitchell; her daughter, Alexandra Mitchell; her brothers, James Case and William Case; and her beloved dog, Buster. She leaves us with lasting memories and enduring love.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MDS Foundation (www.mds-foundation.org) in her honor.
