at C. P. Bannon Mortuary, 6800 International Blvd, Oakland, CA 94621.
Dorothy Mae Baker, 90 of Oakland, California, peacefully passed
away on July 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born
on December 26, 1935, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dorothy was
a beacon of grace, strength, and compassion to all who knew her.
Dorothy’s early life in New Orleans was filled with music, faith,
and a strong sense of family.
She later relocated to Oakland, where
she built a beautiful life dedicated to serving others and nurturing
her family. Dorothy was known for her warm spirit, infectious smile,
and a heart that was always open to anyone in need.
A woman of deep faith, Dorothy was an active and faithful member
of her church community, her devotion to God and her steadfast
prayers were a foundation not just for her own family but for countless
family & friends who sought her counsel and encouragement.
Dorothy loved to cook and took great joy in preparing meals that
brought family and friends together. Her gumbo, red beans and
rice, and bread pudding were legendary and often requested at
gatherings. Beyond her culinary gifts, she was a natural nurturer—
always ready with a listening ear, wise words, and a loving embrace.
Dorothy’s legacy is carried on by her children, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, great great grandson and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish her
love, wisdom, and unwavering support.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sons, parents, siblings,
and other family members who now welcome her home in eternal
peace.
Dorothy Mae Baker will be remembered for her elegance, her heart
of gold, and her unshakeable faith. She leaves behind a legacy of
love, resilience, and a family strengthened by her example.
