Rev. David George Rowley, Sr. beloved husband, father and grandfather went to his heavenly home on Monday, April 20, 2020 after a brief hospitalization due to pneumonia. He was 89 years old. His faith in the Lord and his devoted wife of 68 years sustained him through each and every challenge he faced.
David was born to the late Albert Sidney Rowley and Annie Louise Rowley, in Los Angeles, California, on March 23, 1931. He served in the US Army in Japan and Korea for three years collectively as a radio repairman. He had many talents and devoted many of them to the Lord’s work. Even at the age of 73, he was actively involved in the construction of Lady Lake Assembly of God. He was never idle, always busy and could fix anything that was broken, including broken hearts.
David’s devotion to the Lord was evident in his every action and deed. He was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for 53 years. He pastored in many churches in Florida, from Jacksonville to Okeechobee as well as Huntsville, Alabama and actively involved in the ministry with Lady Lake Assembly of God as an associate pastor. His generosity knew no bounds as he would give the sweater off his back if he knew someone were cold, citing he had several more at home and could only wear one at a time. He was witty, but kind, and always gave sincere thought before answering questions. His wisdom was highly sought after and greatly appreciated by all who knew him. His compassion for people in general (saints or sinners) was a cherished attribute as spending time with him came without conditions and never carried judgement. His main goal in life was to spread the gospel and lead souls to Christ. To say he was a Godly man, is an understatement.
David was blessed with a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; sons David Jr., Albert, Clifford and daughter Martha Ann DiLullo. 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren,1 great-great grandchild; and sisters Marjorie Shepherd and Frances Ferrell. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Eula Hottinger and his grand-daughter Angela Kay.
There will be a viewing Friday, May 8, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. at Lady Lake Assembly of God and the service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Ron Hartley will officiate. David will be buried at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ocala, Florida.
Flowers are always a lovely sentiment, and are appreciated, however Pastor Dave was passionate about sharing the gospel with children. He was devoted to the Boys and Girls Missionary Club, and collected cans to recycle and donated the proceeds to the ministry.
