James C. Wilkie Jr., age 71, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026. Born on February 9, 1955, in New York City, James moved with his family to Florida in 1964, where he spent much of his youth and formative years and created many lifelong memories.
A proud graduate of Lake Weir High School, Class of 1973, James began his journey in Florida before moving to Connecticut shortly after graduation. There, he built a steady and respected career as an assistant manager at a grocery store, where he worked for many years. Known for his reliability, kind nature, and strong work ethic, James was not only valued by his colleagues but also appreciated by the many customers who came to know him over the years.
Outside of work, James had a deep love for music and sports, both of which brought him great joy throughout his life. Whether listening to his favorite songs, watching games, following his favorite teams, or simply sharing stories and laughter with family and friends, these passions were a constant source of comfort and connection. He especially treasured the simple moments—time spent with loved ones, familiar tunes playing, and conversations that could stretch for hours.
James is survived by his loving mother, Florence M. Mattison, and stepfather, George H. Mattison of Summerfield, Florida; his sister, Rosanne Wilkie-Daniels, and brother-in-law, Jerry Daniels of Weirsdale, Florida; as well as five nieces and one nephew, all of whom he cared for deeply and held close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, James C. Wilkie Sr.; his nephew, Travis Lee Daniels; his paternal grandparents, Andrew and Wilhelmina Wilkie; and his maternal grandparents, John and Rose Dulgres.
James will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and the steady presence he brought into the lives of those who knew and loved him. He had a way of making people feel at ease, and his kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met
“Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear.”
