Margie was born in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico to Francisca (Paquita) Febus and the late Genaro Febus. She came to New York at the age of five and raised her family in Spanish Harlem. She graduated from Mabel Dean Bacon High School with a concentration in Cosmetology.
Margie loved to play bingo and visited the race track with her companion of many years, Francisco Sanchez. Margie was a loving and devoted mother to her three children: Norma Matos-JeanPierre (Abner), Jose Daniel Matos (Onika) and Victor Luis Matos (Crystal). She is survived and her legacy will live on through her grandchildren that she loved dearly: Jade & Alexis Matos, Stephen, Matthew & Anthony JeanPierre, and Stephanie, Jessica & Justin Matos.
Margie had many hobbies that included tending the many plants in her apartment, running (in her younger days) and serving in a leadership role on her children’s school PTA. Margie was one of six children. She loved her siblings and their spouses dearly and was known growing up as the peace maker in the house and so very pretty. Her siblings include: Nelly Palumbo, Maria Febus-Bozan, Evelyn Castellanos (Joseph), Anibal Febus (Francis) and Gloria Febus.
Margie was a beloved, fun Titi who enjoyed babysitting and caring for her nieces and nephews. They include: Melissa & Jon Bozan, Christina & Joey Castellanos, Tiffany Ramos, Rachel & Ralph Michael Palumbo, Lauren & Emily Febus. Margie enjoyed taking them to the sprinklers and to the local public schools for lunch in the summer time. Margie had a colorful imagination and always enjoyed a party and a good meal. Margie did her best to remember everyone’s birthday, even if she called Tiffany a day early most years.
Margie loved her extended family and will be remembered by aunts, uncles, cousins, and neighbors. She was loved by many.
A special thanks to her home attendant, Rebecca, who showed so much care, love and patience in her greatest time of need. She even visited and called when she was no longer assigned to Margie.
Margie is finally free of all of the appointments, finger sticks, medication and pain. She can eat whatever she wants now—she’s free. She found a better, safer place to be in the hands of the Lord and forever in our hearts.
