Ruth P. Alvord

Ruth has been a resident of Ocala and Silver Springs since 1979 and prior to that she was a resident of Camden and Rome New York. Ruth was married to Raymond W Alvord on June 14th 1947.

Ruth is pre-deceased by her husband, Raymond Alvord her daughter Deborah (Alvord) Passage and grandson-in-law Robby Strausser. She is survived by her other children Gregory Alvord and his wife Donna of Raleigh, North Carolina and Randall Alvord and his fiancé Tracy Powell of Ocala, Florida. Ruth had four grandchildren. Stephanie(Alvord) Hill of Winterville, North Carolina, Rebecca “Becky” Strausser of Ocala, Florida, Hayley Q. Alvord and Kaitlyn Ruth Alvord of Ocala, Florida. Ruth also has five great grand children Alex Hill, Zachary Hill, Natalie Strausser, Amelia Strausser and Hope Strausser.

Ruth was born on March 15th, 1925 in Rome, New York. Throughout her school years Ruth doodled designs of dresses on every piece of paper she touched. Ruth started a fashion design business called Alvord’s Dress Shop in 1955. She specialized in Bridal fashion and had her own fashion label. She custom designed thousands of bridal gowns over her 25 years in business. When Ruth moved to Florida with her husband and family in 1979 she wanted to start her second career in Real Estate. Ruth opened RnB Realty in 1983 with a business partner and served on several committees and as a Director with the Ocala/Marion County Association of Realtors.

Ruth’s spare time was all about family and she spent as much time as possible with family and watching her beloved New York Yankees with her grandson-in-law. Ruth and her husband travelled in retirement and enjoyed painting and golf.

Services will be held Friday July 2nd, 2021 at First Christian Church of Ocala at 11:00am followed by a reception where the family will provide a hot dog bar and refreshments. She will be interned next to her husband and daughter in the veteran’s garden at Forest lawn Memorial Gardens on S Hwy 441 in Ocala.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked to make a donation in her honor to ARC Marion, Inc at 2800 SE Maricamp Rd., Ocala, Forida. Ruth had a special place in her heart to help the developmentally challenged and would greatly encourage any donations.
