Beatrice Rosenberg, 91, of Shrewsbury, left us Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, surrounded by her family. Born in Indianapolis, Ind. on March 21, 1921, Bea lived there with her family until moving to Chicago in 1937. In 1941, she studied at the University of Chicago and later worked on the top-secret Atomic Bomb project where she was very proud of her accomplishments. Married to Harvey Rosenberg in February 1960, Bea started her family and moved to NYC. In 1969, she then made the move to Chicago where she lived until 1994. Bea was a real estate broker for many years at Coldwell Banker in Glenview, Ill., where she received a lifetime achievement award. In 1989, she fell down a flight of stairs where she sustained a spinal cord injury leading to the premature end of her career in real estate. After a year of rehabilitation in Chicago, she was able to resume life and walk with a walker (a tremendous feat at age 69). Not one to be halted, in April 1994, Bea received the AARP "Outstanding Service to Community" award for spearheading a Senior Housing Directory, which was later used by seniors and social workers to help secure housing for seniors on the North Shore of Chicago. Family was always a key part of her life and in August 1994, Bea made the move east to be near her son, daughter-in-law and grandson-to-be. It was in New Jersey that Bea continued her activism and in 1997 the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly recognized her efforts in a Joint Legislative Resolution for obtaining the presence of certified defibrillators in police vehicles in New Jersey. Bea was especially proud of this accomplishment and her impact on saving lives. In addition to all of her accomplishments, Bea was a much loved mother, grandmother and aunt who had much love to give and many lessons for her family. She shared much of her time at family dinners and celebrations chatting about politics and sharing her very positive outlook on life. She taught us all how to be proud of ourselves and our accomplishments.
Bea is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Jennifer Rosenberg of Fair Haven, and her grandchildren Henry, Olivia and Margot; her nephew, Elliot and wife Carolyn and family of Farmington, CT and her niece, Tracy and husband Gary and family of Long Island, NY and many friends she has made along the way.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012 at Monmouth Reform Temple, Tinton Falls, with internment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean Twp., is in charge of arrangements.
