Carol Phyllis Jochnowitz died peacefully surrounded by loving family on March 5th. Carol grew up in Camden, attended NYU on a full academic scholarship earning a BFA in Fine Arts, and completed her formal education with an MFA at Queens College. At NYU Carol met her loving husband Jo Jochnowitz. Jo and Carol created an extraordinary life together as art educators. Carol influenced and inspired thousands of students teaching in Newark, East Brunswick, and Buck’s Rock. She received numerous awards and accolades as an art educator. Her own art medium was creating fabric and macrame.
Carol and Jo were married for 62 years until his passing in 2018. Her greatest love was her family and the beautiful home they created with their three extraordinary daughters, each one strong and unique. She loved being a mother but her greatest gifts were her grandchildren who made her so proud. She was loved by everyone she met. Carol is survived by Abby Jochnowitz and Victor Hunt, Nina Jochnowitz, Cantor Gabrielle, and John Clissold, and grandchildren, Ben and Kim Hunt, Asher and Simon Clissold and Rami Jochnowitz. A graveside service will be held at 10am on Wednesday March 8th, 2023 at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Donations can be made in Carols memory to Parker at Monroe at [email protected].
