We may have been 1,200 miles apart, but our  bond of friendship lasting 54 years was never stronger.  She will be dearly missed.

By birth, Joan was my cousin. By choice, Joan was my friend. 

From my earliest days, I knew that. At Passover, she showed compassion. 
At my Bar Mitzvah, I chose her to drive me from the synagogue to the 
reception. In my early years at college, when we lived just a few blocks apart, 
she was generous with her time, and through sagacious advice, helped turn a 
boy into a man. She was kind to both Roz and to Tasanee. In later years, 
we spoke by phone every other week or so, and we maintained our rapport. 


She honored me by asking me to be godfather for both of her 
children, and had it become necessary, I would have fulfilled the role. And 
although both she and I were strong personalities, in the 70 mutual years 
that we spent on this planet, we never argued; we never fought.

She 
didn't have an easy life. From parents who divorced, a personal fight 
against cancer a decade ago, a long-term fight with several serious diseases - 
through it all, she maintained optimism and cheerfulness. I never felt 
uncomfortable with her.

Fortunate that she found a wonderful man 
to spend the last half of her life with, she was happy. I'm glad about 
that.

My life has been enriched by Joan's friendship, and many 
others lives have been enriched by that friendship also. As I said at the 
beginning, it was by choice that Joan was my friend. I loved her dearly. She 
will be missed for the rest of my life.

Joan is more than a friend, she's family.  She brought such a joy into our family by being an ever present part of it.  The friendship that she started through work with my Aunt Dot transcended more than 30 years into friendships between my daughter and her granddaughter Meredith.  Our holidays were brighter for her and Rob's presence ... the stories, the laughs, the food we shared ... that table will never be the same without Joan at it.  I cannot even imagine it at the moment ... but the reality will come soon enough.

I'm heartbroken to lose someone so dear.  My love, hugs, prayers, support are with all of you during this time.  My memories of Joan will forever be treasured.

I send my love and hugs. Joan was just an amazing woman. She was always full of love and joy. It was always a pleasure being around her. I am thankful that she brought Meredith and me together, and I will always cherish that friendship. She will be missed.

I love you all so dearly. You are like a second family to me, and I share your sorrow at her loss. It hurts my heart that such a wonderful woman is gone. I wish I could be there with all of you.
