Marlyn Michaels was born on November 13, 1934, at the home of her parents Nathan and Betty Morris, on Munroe Avenue in Asbury Park. Marlyn was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, where she had a tremendous impact on her community. She touched the lives of literally thousands of kids and young adults, who she taught, tutored, coached, and directed during a decades-long career in both education and the performing arts. Marlyn was a graduate of Asbury Park High School, where she was a recent inductee in the School’s Hall of Fame, and NYU, where she received her degree in Education. Though her first love was always singing, Marlyn went on to teach elementary school students at West End School, in Long Branch; Hillel School in Ocean; and Remedial Education in the Ocean Township School system. Her love of singing and performing onstage ultimately led to a second career as an actress, writer, producer, and director of local theater. A fellow Board member at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center said she was an inspiration to all who knew her. Marlyn may no longer be here, but she lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her voice will always be a part of her family, extended family, and the many friends she made over the years.
A funeral service for Marlyn will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 at 1:00pm at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 2130 Highway 35, Ocean, NJ 07712. Burial will be private.
