She was most of all a wife and mother who married the man of her dreams-a man who folk danced-and who cherished family life with her children, grandchildren, and siblings. She was a passionate activist and founded groups and activities that include Ezra group at Temple B’nai Israel, a bereavement group and a summer camp for underserved youth. She was the first in her family to attend college and earned her B.A. in mathematics at Hunter College and an EdD in early childhood education from Rutgers. Her professional life’s work was to support children with learning disabilities. She headed Special Services at Union Beach schools in the 70’s and later had a private practice. Her energy, enthusiasm, and talent gave her a full life with activities at B’nai Israel. She was an accomplished sculptress, folk dancer, reader, and learner. Always a fighter and a survivor, she conquered cancer and learned to parallel park in her 80’s. In addition to folk dancing well into her 80’s, she had a profound love of poetry.
She was the beloved and devoted wife of Walter Pressman who died in 2002. She is survived by her children, Mark and his wife Rosalie, Roy, and daughter Jan, two grandchildren Ariel and Gabriel, her brother Robert Weiner and his wife Lucille, and her sister Barbara Barr and her husband Hal.
A chapel service will be at 1pm on Monday June 18th at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Interment will follow at B’nai Israel Cemetery, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ezra Group at B’nai Israel, 171 Ridge Rd in Rumson, or the Lymphoma Department of Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, 1275 York Ave, NYC 10065.
