Yvette’s long, wonderful life began in Cannes, France, where he was born on October 3, 1933 – the only child of Andre’ and Antonia (Perrissol) Bontoux. Her youth was spent in Cannes, in the south of France, where she enjoyed the beautiful weather, the beaches, and having fun with her family and many friends. Always adventurous and excited to see the world, Yvette sought an opportunity to travel to the United States in 1951 as soon as she graduated high school. She initially came over as a nanny working for a family in the Seattle area, and then proceeded to make multiple trips back and forth between France and the U.S. throughout the 1950’s, eventually landing an office position working in New York City at SNCF (French national railway company).
It was at SNCF where Yvette met the love of her life and future husband, Charles, in 1962. They married in 1965 and initially settled down in Rego Park, Queens. Three years later, their son, Erik, was born, which eventually led to a long-term relocation to the NYC suburbs. The family moved to North White Plains, NY, in Westchester County, in 1969, where they lived for almost 50 glorious years. During this time, Yvette traveled extensively with her family around the world. Her many voyages spanned 6 continents, but she always managed to return home to Cannes annually in the summer to visit her mother and share with Charles and Erik the beauty and charm of southern France that she had grown up with. Yvette was also an avid cook who enjoyed preparing and serving wonderful international meals and desserts to her family and friends for any occasion, whether it be a holiday, a weekend, or an average school night. Professionally, Yvette was a very successful Avon lady for many years during the 1970’s and 1980’s, and then held various local administrative office positions to keep herself busy once Erik got older and left for college. In 2016, Yvette and Charles finally left Westchester to move closer to their son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter in NJ, settling into Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls, where Yvette lived in a comfortable apartment she loved until the very day of her passing.
A true bon vivant and class act, Yvette enjoyed world travel, fine food (both cooking and eating it), watching TV and movies, and simply spending quality time with her family and friends. She will always be fondly remembered for her funny sense of humor, cute French accent, total lack of a filter, and ability to make everyone always laugh and have a great time in her presence. She will be missed by anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with her.
Yvette is predeceased by her husband, Charles; and survived by her son, Erik; her daughter-in-law, Karyn; her granddaughter, Samantha; her niece, Annie; her nephew, Franck; and several cousins in both the U.S. and France.
