Berneice Hollie Hibbitts Dodson of Odessa, Texas and Deming, NM went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 29, 2014. She was surrounded by all of her children and three of her grandchildren and one son-in-law. She left this world at peace to gain her second set of wings, as she was already an angel here on earth, she was packed and ready to go. She was born in Terry County, Texas on Christmas Day in 1923 to the late Lamar and Hattie Hibbitts and was one of 13 children.
Berneice was always full of life. After retiring from Meither Machine in Odessa, she had plenty of time to do whatever she wanted. She loved to play cards and would play with anyone who would play with her, no matter their age. She spent as much of her time as she could with her kinds, grandkids, siblings and friends.
She loved to travel. She spent two weeks in Germany with her oldest daughter and her husband and loved every minute of it. She also cruised to Alaska with two daughters, a granddaughter and two of her great grandchildren. They spent lots of quality time together and came home with lots of great memories. Anytime anyone would say “Let’s go” she would always be the first one out the door. She also loved to embroider and quilt. For every new baby in the family she made a baby blanket and for every wedding she made a quilt.
Berneice was a loving woman and she never met a stranger. She was loved by all. She never had an unkind word to or about anyone. She was always loving and patient and a great example of Christ’s Love to those around her.
She was a 15 year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Intl. She was very active in the sorority where she donated baby blankets that she made to the St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and also to the UNM Children’s Oncology Department in Albuquerque, NM.
She is preceded in death by her daughter LaDonna Lynne Hamilton of Odessa, her parents, four brothers and one sister, daughters-in-law Brenda Kenney Brych and Linda Dodson
She is survived by her daughter Gay Helton and husband Ivan of Deming, NM, son Gary Lee Kenney of Odessa, daughter Nella Rae Wilkerson and husband Steve of Houston, daughter Birdie Faye Hickey of Odessa, son Manton Ray (Butch) Dodson Jr. of Odessa, and son Randy L. Dodson of Tulsa, OK, and special friend of the family Benito (Bennie) Gonzales of Crane, TX, 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren and sisters Adnell Johnson , Katy, TX, Mary K. Pieriea of Bakersfield, CA, Edna Pugh of Levelland, TX, Marjorie Shaw of Monahans, TX, Nancy Singleton, of Seagraves, TX, Alberta James of Franklin, LA and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at Medical Center Hospital for their special care of Mom during her stay there. We also want to thank Home Hospice for their patience and understanding for all the questions they answered tome and again, and for their kindness during the time Mom was under their care. The prayers and phone calls from friends and relatives meant so much to all of the family and were so appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the favorite charity of your choice. She has gone to the Big Family Reunion in Heaven.
