On Saturday, April 14, 2012 Calvin Oneal Davis passed away after a lengthy illness. He is survived by a son, Cary Davis and wife Annette, a son David Davis and wife Doris, a daughter Sandra and husband Johnny Lasiter, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great -great- grandchildren, 1 brother, and 3 sisters.
Born Feb 5, 1921 on a farm at Doctors Creek, Texas, in Delta County, Calvin married Edna Louise McGee on April 17, 1941 and celebrated 70 years of marriage before Louise passed away in April of last year. Calvin honorably served, first in the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1939, and again during World War ll as a Naval Seabee. After the war he moved to Lubbock, Texas where he began a 30+ year career as a mechanic and later service manager for numerous dealers in west Texas. He later used those skills to begin employment with Brown and Root as a journeyman millwright, foreman, and general foreman before retiring in 1986. After retirement Calvin and Louise moved to Odessa where he spent another 16+ years in maintenance at the Odessa Country Club. When asked why he continued to work well into his eighties, he would always tell you that a rocking chair was not made for him, that he had to remain active, a work ethic he instilled in his children.
A member of First Baptist Church of Odessa, funeral services will be conducted by Don Norris at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 17, with interment following at Sunset Cemetery. Joel Hughes, Benny Clemments, Clint Lasiter, Keven Kennard, Tresten Kennard, and Chris Davis will serve as pallbearers.
