

Donald Leon Grant, 69, passed away September 14, 2015 at his home from complications of diabetes and heart disease. Don was born June 4, 1946 in Borger, Texas. He grew up in Odessa from the young age of 7. Don met his wife of 50 years, Wilma, while attending Permian High School where they both graduated in 1964 and 1965 respectively.
Don was an avid hunter, fisherman and also loved camping. Don was involved throughout his life in bowling leagues, a member of the Permian Basin Bass Club, coached and umpired little league baseball and he worked with his father at D.L. “Red” Grant and Son Floor Covering and later becoming the owner of the carpet and supply business before his retirement in the summer of 2012.
His grandkids first called him Papa Don. Some of his greatest pleasures included watching generations of his family in all their events.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Leathers Grant and Eunice Lucille Vroman Grant. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Nancy Dunn Grant, his son, Gene Grant and wife Valerie Anderson Grant, his daughter Donna Lynan Grant Travis all of Odessa, his two sisters Nancy Grant Hubbard and husband Larry Hubbard of Odessa, and Neita Grant of Lubbock.
Also survived by 8 Grandchildren: Jeff Grant, Michael Grant and wife Tiffany, Kristen Travis, Hayden Travis, Brayden Grant, Ryan Travis and Byron Travis; along with two Great Grandchildren, Wyatt Grant and Kylee Grant.
Don was loved and survived by many lifelong friends, his extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life will be at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, September 17, at 6:30 PM. Visitation will follow from 7 – 8:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests, donations be given to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
