Donald Owen Holden

Donald Owen Holden, 78, of Odessa passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born December 12, 1934 to Charlie & Mary LaVerne (Owen) Holden. He graduated from Lampasas High School. He married Geneva Pearl Meyer September 25, 1959 in Odessa.

He served in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division, he made 23 jumps and was 1st in his class as a Morse code operator. He was a mechanic for Southwestern Portland Cement Company for years. After his retirement he became an avid shrimper on the Texas Gulf Coast for 25 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geneva in 2012. He is survived by his sons, Charlie Owen Holden of Odessa, Jerry Scott Holden of Austin, brother, Jerry Holden & wife Darnell of Ballinger, sister, Charlene Crump Holden of Austin, (2) nephews, Stuart Holden, Roby Crump, & niece, Elaine Bishop Crump.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, July 12, 2013 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, July 15, 2013 at Christadelphian Cemtery in Hye, Texas with Rev. Bobby Broyles officiating.
