Dorothy Mae Vaughan was called to the Father on January 15th in Odessa, TX after battling a severe pneumonia infection. Dorothy was born on March 31, 1932 in Seminole, TX to parents C.T. and Lola Mae Wescott. Dorothy grew up in Seminole and graduated from McMurry College in Abilene. She worked as a teacher in the Big Spring, Lubbock, and Odessa school systems. She married Robert L. “Bob” Vaughan on June 5th, 1953 in Big Spring, TX. They had two sons, Robert L. “Bobby” Vaughan, Jr. now of Burke, VA and Phillip Dale Vaughan now of Katy, TX. Dorothy and her family moved frequently due to Bob’s job with Phillips Petroleum in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Dorothy worked for several years as the coordinator for the Odessa Meals on Wheels. She was an active member in the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and remained a supporter of McMurry College.
Dorothy lived a good life enjoying time with family and traveling across the country in an RV with her family. She enjoyed fishing and sitting in the cool mountain air at a favorite campsite in Cloudcroft, NM. She was a very gentle soul and touched many lives. The last two and a half years, Dorothy lived in Sherwood Place in Odessa and enjoyed playing dominoes, cards and bingo.
Dorothy is preceded in death by both her parents, her brother Donald Wescott and her husband Bob. She is survived by her son Bobby, his wife Marie, grandchildren Emily, Steven, Christina, and Trey (RLV III); her son Phillip, his wife Toyi and their daughter Cassie. She is also survived by her siblings Lee Wescott of Midlothian, TX, his wife Dee and their children and families; Jane Collen of Dallas, TX and her children and families; Betty Plummer of Littleton, Colorado and her children and families.
Visitation will be held at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa, Texas on Sunday, Jan 19th from 3-5pm. Funeral service will be at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Odessa at 1 PM on Monday, Jan 20th. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial next to her husband Bob for eternal peace. Memorial contributions can be made to her church, St Luke’s United Methodist Church of Odessa, TX.
