Elizabeth Ann Hickey Mefford left our world to be with her eternal heavenly family on Sunday, January 12, 2025. “Miss Ann,” as she was known to countless Chick-fil-A patrons, was born to Paul B. and Lillian Lucile McMahan Hickey on July 28, 1930, in Lingleville, Texas. Ann grew up in Lingleville, graduating from Lingleville High School on May 28, 1947, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
Ann met the love of her life, Glen Dale Mefford, and the couple were united in holy matrimony on October 1, 1948. The marriage lasted until Glen’s untimely death in 1979. The union produced two daughters, Glenda Ann, born on July 13, 1951, in Hico, Texas, and Paula Dalene, born on April 20, 1958, in Odessa, Texas. The family moved to Odessa in 1955 and made their life in the Odessa-Midland area with Ann excelling at the challenging career of wife, Mom, and homemaker.
After Glen’s death in 1979, Ann entered the workforce, first as a member of the Ector County Library staff until 1993, then as a childcare worker for Odessa Christian Academy until 2012, and finally as “Miss Ann” to the 42nd street Chick-fil-A patrons until her retirement in July 2024. Ann was a long-term resident at Brady Station Apartments and a long-term member of Crescent Park Baptist Church.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lillian Hickey; husband Glen Mefford; daughters Glenda Moore and Paula Campbell Wheatley; granddaughter Amber Cheyenne Moore; and great-grandson Rylan Cade Campbell.
Ann is survived by granddaughters Rachel Wheatley Haarde (husband John) and Molly Moore; grandson Bradley Scott Campbell (wife Kara); great-grandchildren Emma, Jack, and Claire Haarde and Ashley Brooke Campbell; sons-in-law Royce Moore and Russell Wheatley (wife Margaret).
Special thanks to the staffs (especially the nurses) of Midland Medical Lodge of Midland, Madison Medical Resort and Parks Senior Living of Odessa for the outstanding care and kind personal interactions with Ann in the last few months of her life as she awaited her destiny. Special thanks to the 42nd street Chick-fil-A management and employees for providing Ann a 12-year work environment that was a joy to her and kept her looking forward to each new day. Special thanks to the staff of Brady Station Apartments for providing Ann with a home she loved and making the time and effort to assist her in meeting the challenges of independent living in her many later years.
Ann was a good, loving woman that enjoyed people and doing for others…a woman with a passion for collecting chicken figurines and collectibles…a woman who loved catching up with the latest news with her Chick-fil-A “coffee drinkers” friends…a woman with a heart that overflowed with love for those she shared her life with…a MeeMee filled with pride and joy when it came to her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
We will miss and cherish our memories of Ann, but are overjoyed with the knowledge that Isaiah 40:31 has now come to pass for Ann…
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
