Nécrologie de Federico "Lico" G. Alvarado
After a courageous battle with cancer, Federico (Lico) G. Alvarado, 88, longtime resident of Odessa, passed away January 14, 2023, at his home surrounded by loving family and friends. Fred was born August 24, 1934, in Presidio, Texas to Pedro and Guadalupe (Guerrero) Alvarado Cervantes. He had two sisters: Belen Alvarado Jimenez and Maria Lilia Cervantes Rodriguez; and seven brothers: Salome Alvarado, Jesus Alvarado, Angel Alvarado, Luz Cervantes, Dolores Cervantes Jr., Ernesto Cervantes, and Jose Cervantes. He met the love of his life Aurora Herrera, and they were married September 30, 1956. Fred and Aurora worked tirelessly to create a home full of love for their family. His loyalty and commitment to his family and friends was endless. He was the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was an incredible husband, brother, father, grandpa and tio to many. Fred drove a truck and worked heavy equipment for many years. He was a great example of what hard work looks like. He was known for his generous heart, big smile and passion for horses and horse racing; for many years he owned and operated Alvarado Racetrack in Gardendale. After his retirement, Fred enjoyed breakfast at Denny's with friends and spending time with family. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, sister Belen Jimenez, brothers Salome, Jesus and Angel Alvarado, and Luz and Dolores Cervantes, son Mario Alvarado (2010), and his wife Aurora (2014). He is survived by sons, Jose Hector Alvarado and his wife Regina of Odessa; daughter-in-law, Marsha of Waco; Leroy Alvarado and his wife Sarah of Midland; and Freddy Alvarado and his wife Beth of Yukon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amy Bobbitt, Abby Gann, Alisha Smith, Adison Smith, Jordan Goates, Amanda Alvarado Sterling, Natalie Ortiz, Jonathan Alvarado, Christopher Alvarado, Vanessa Alvarado Chamblee, Laci Alvarado Brueggen, Alex Alvarado, and Alyssa Alvarado Perez. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, and one expected in July. The family would like to thank Fred's caregivers for their service and attention: Meals on Wheels and Interim Healthcare of Midland. In particular, the family acknowledges with gratitude his caseworker Maribel, his volunteer Chriselda, his caregiver Salia, Pastor Clay Porter and especially his nurse Michelle for her loving care of our father.
