

ODESSA Guy Franklin McNeal, 82, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Medical Center Hospital. Guy was born August 21, 1931 in El Paso County, Texas, son of Guy McNeal, Jr. and Daisy May Davison. He was a Christian and longtime member of Northside Baptist Church.
Guy graduated from El Paso High School in 1949 and entered into service with the Air Force. He graduated Air Police Training in Camp Gordon, Georgia in May 1951. He was stationed at Ladd Air Field, Fairbanks, Alaska, and then, transferred to Forbes in Topeka, Kansas. He was Airman Second Class (A/2C) 815th Air Police Squadron during the Korean War. His honorable discharge in 1955 reflects a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
While he was stationed in Topeka, he met his wife, Thelma, and married on December 19, 1954. They moved back to El Paso where Guy worked for his father at the International Moving Warehouse. In 1959, he attended Texas Western College (a.k.a. UTEP) to obtain a degree in Business Accounting. They had their first daughter, Guylene, while living on campus and he worked for the Campus Police. After graduating in 1963 he applied to the Treasury Department and moved his family to Odessa. In 1967, they had a second daughter, Susan. He retired in 1979 and opened his own bookkeeping firm partnering with Guylene. Later he worked for Medical Labs as courier for local medical facilities.
He enjoyed reading western books and working crossword puzzles. He became actively involved with his high school reunion committee, working tirelessly to locate all his classmates. He published the alumni directory from the 40th through 60th Reunions EPHS Class of ‘49. He even loaned his talent to helping other alumni organizations locate their missing classmates as the internet turned him into quite a private detective.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Thelma Pearl Harvey. He is survived by sisters; Nancy McNeal of Mesquite, Kathy Conrad and husband Jim of Breda, Iowa. He has two daughters; Guylene Sanders and husband, Joe, of Odessa, Susan Jones and husband, Jeff, of West Odessa. He also has six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.
There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 6:30pm Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Friday, October 11, 2013, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens and military honors will be accorded by the VFW Color Guard.
