Helen was a 1947 graduate of Odessa High School. After high school, Helen married the love of her life, Lester Leathers, on May 28, 1949. After his death in 1966, she worked many years at National Bank of Odessa and First Bankers Trust as a teller. Helen finished her career as a receptionist at the Permian Basin Regional Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
Helen is survived by daughters Diane (Tom) Morrison, Donna (Larry) Turner and son Gary (Susan) Leathers. Grandchildren: Jennifer (Eric) Holling, Will (Melanie) Turner, Jessica (Paul) Moody and Greg (Heidi) Turner. Great grandchildren: Dylan Holling, Brianna Moody, Jake Moody and Lynndee Moody. Helen is survived by one sister, Jane Carter.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, June Benjamin Whatley, Eunice Corrine Whatley; husband Lester Leathers; her siblings, Kenneth Whatley, Carl Whatley, Richard Whatley and Dorothy King.
The family would especially like to thank Julie Armentrout who has been her loving caregiver for the last few years. Her kindness and compassion is greatly appreciated by the entire family.
