Ignacio lived a life full of music, humor, faith, and service. Due to epilepsy, he did not attend middle school or high school and spent several years at Abilene State Hospital receiving care for disabilities and mental illness. Despite these challenges, Ignacio lived with resilience and purpose, touching many lives along the way.
He volunteered at the food pantry in Fort Davis as an interpreter and volunteered for the Odessa city police academy. During his time in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Ignacio worked as an equipment helper for the band "La Banda del Cielo" and also did upholstery work.
Known affectionately by his nicknames “Nacho Cheese” and “Nachito,” Ignacio was a character in the truest sense. He loved telling jokes, making people laugh, and pulling playful pranks by tricking people with false stories. He had a fiery side as well—if you made him angry, he wouldn’t hesitate to let you know. One of his favorite sayings was, “Comes chocolate, paga lo que debes.”
Ignacio was a devoted member of the Pentecostal Church and attended every Sunday. Music was one of his greatest passions; he loved listening to music and playing the trumpet, saxophone, drums, and tambourine. He also deeply loved his beloved dog, Duke, who brought him much comfort and companionship.
He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Rodriguez of Odessa; and his nieces and nephews: Lucas, Rebecca, Mariah, Annika and Landon Salcido of Marfa; Mini, Matthew, Evan and Austin Tavarez of Odessa; Rodolfo, Malachi, Rain, Serenity and Soul Salcido of Alpine; Elvira, David, Noah, Lane and Adalyn Perez of Odessa; Sophia Salcido of Odessa; and Geronimo, Alexie, Joaquin and Esmeralda Salcido of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Elvira Dominguez Rodriguez and Jose Antonio Rodriguez.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Salcido, Rodolfo Salcido, Geronimo Salcido, Matthew Tavarez, Matthew Gallegos and David Perez. Honorary pallbearer is Omar Valenzuela.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Sylvia Rodriguez.
Ignacio will be remembered for his laughter, his music, his faith, and the unforgettable joy he brought to those who knew him.
