Jerri Lea Welborn

Jerri Lea Curtis Welborn was born on November 1, 1955 to two loving parents, Sue Kirk and James Robert Curtis, and grandparents Annie and Bob Kirk and Paddy and T.O. Curtis. She was raised in Houston and educated at Lamar University.

She is survived by her children, Tara and Seth Welborn, and her mother, Sue Curtis, of Houston, her sister Suzanne Smith and sister and brother-in-law Janice and Dennis Pampell of Bryan, Texas, her nieces and nephews, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A 1974 graduate of North Shore High School, Jerri Lea worked at Fulbright and Jaworski as a legal secretary before becoming a teacher at Galena Park High School in 1985. In her fifteen years at Galena Park, she was well-loved by students and enjoyed working as senior class and cheerleading sponsor, among other positions. For the last seven years she worked at Crockett Middle School in Pecos, Texas and enjoyed being part of her West Texas family. This year she celebrated her second year free of cancer. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family members, friends, and students.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 30 at 2pm at Uvalde Baptist Church in Houston, Texas with Dr. Royce Measures officiating. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. Memorial gifts may be made in Jerri Lea Welborn’s name to the American Cancer Society and Compass Hospice of Odessa, Texas.
