Katie Frieda Richards

Katie Richards, admired as a faithful follower of Christ, passed away on December 31, 2024. Born on May 4, 1930, Katie was known for her bright smile, warmth, generosity, and the undeniably loving spirit she brought into the world.

Katie will be lovingly remembered by her beloved children and their families, Carla and Wally VanZandt and great-grandson Judah; Gwen and Rex Walker, their daughter Taylor Walker Batton and husband David; Tracy Flowers and her children, Brendan and wife Nichole Flowers and great-grandson John Harvey, Bryce Flowers, and Kaleigh Flowers; Julie Richards and Scott Whisenhunt, and Julie's son Nathaniel Shelton and his fiancé Destiny Walker, as well as her sister Ruth Cleckler, and many nieces and nephews. She was married to William Wayne Richards on May 14, 1955. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Annalisa VanZandt. With a large family tree and a family consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Katie was cherished deeply by many.

Among Katie's most significant accomplishments was raising her four daughters, whom she held as her pride and joy. She worked as a dental assistant prior to having children. After the girls were in school she returned to work at the Odessa High School and Permian High School cafeterias, shared a small snack bar business, and eventually worked at Nelson's Office Supply for many years until retirement With all the challenges life brought her way, Katie never wavered in her faith and compassion for others Even in her last days, she was looking to befriend and help fellow residents at The Parks.

Her legacy is one of trusting in her heavenly father, relying on his love, grace, and mercy.

A visitation for Katie will be held Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, 601 North Alleghaney, Odessa, TX 79761. A graveside service will occur Monday, January 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Ector County Cemetery, 300 S Dixie Blvd, Odessa, TX 79761. A celebration of life will occur Monday, January 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church, 2002 N Lincoln Ave, Odessa, TX 79761.
