

She was born September 29, 1951 in Tulia, Texas to Lee Roy Rawlings and June Anne Comeau Rawlings. She lived in Plainview, Texas until her family moved to Arizona when she was in 7th grade. They returned to Plainview after 4 years and she graduated from Plainview High School in 1970.
She graduated from North Texas State University in August of 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She lived in many towns across Texas and settled in Odessa, Texas in 1981. She retired in June, 2009 as the Supervisor of the Payroll Department at Ector County ISD after 22 years.
Laura’s greatest joy was her family. She met the love of her life and soul-mate, Mike in 1983, and they were married 3 months later. She loved cooking and sewing for her family and watching movies and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved the color purple and any kind of flower. She always said one of the greatest blessings in her life was being a mother to her children, Joseph Lee Pointer, Amanda Laura Pointer, and her step-son, Michael Aaron McKnight.
She was a member of Sherwood Church of Christ, Odessa, Texas. She was also a member of The Texas Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and June Rawlings, and two brothers, John and Donald Rawlings.
She is survived by her husband Mike, her 3 children, Aaron & wife Margie of Odessa, Texas, Joseph Lee of Payson, Arizona, Amanda & husband Austin Rogers of San Antonio, Texas, and 3 grandchildren, Samantha Katlyn Pointer, Jessie Leigh Pointer, and Tiberius Rogers.
A private memorial service will be held in Odessa and a graveside service will be held at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to: The Children’s Home of Lubbock, P.O. Box 2824, Lubbock, TX 79408, The Odessa Professional Police Officer Association (PPOA) at 205 N. Grant, Odessa, TX 79761, or the charity of your choice.
