
Lynn Herring Crawford, 72, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Odessa Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born December 15, 1939 to Loyd and Sue Herring, Lynn graduated from Ballinger High School and attended Texas Tech University, where she was ROTC Sweetheart and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
An Odessa resident since 1967, Lynn held several professional positions including news director for KOSA Radio, human resources specialist for Compressor Systems Inc., and Odessa office manager for then-State Sen. Kent Hance, and subsequently State Sen. E. L. Short.
Her community activities included volunteer work for Planned Parenthood of West Texas, serving as president of the Ladies Association of Mission Country Club and, for several years serving as director of housing for the Permian Basin Open Golf Tournament. Because she opened her home, her kitchen and her heart to all she met, Lynn had an amazing array of friends from all walks of life, including many young people who considered themselves “adopted” by her.
On April 2, 1976, she was married to Ernest W. “Ernie” Crawford, who was not only her spouse but her dearest friend.
In addition to Ernie, Lynn is survived by daughter, Laura Switzer Alexander and husband James of Carrollton, and son, Charles Switzer and wife Lisa of Midland. She is also survived by stepsons, Bret Crawford and wife Carolyn of Chesterfield, VA, and Brad Crawford and wife Audrey of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Grandchildren include Meredith and Sarah Alexander, Carina Crawford Sanchez and Jake, Caleb, and John Crawford. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, a sister, Ellen Herring Brown and husband Stephen of San Angelo, brother-in-law, Sid Stahl of Dallas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lynn was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Susan Herring Stahl.
The family thanks the medical staff at Odessa Regional Medical Center for their professional efforts on Lynn’s behalf. Special gratitude is extended to Dr. JB Naidu, Dr. Raja Naidu and nurse practitioner Irene Tinney, all of whom cared so lovingly for Lynn during and since heart surgery four years ago.
A memorial service to celebrate Lynn’s life will be held at a later date. Friends are invited to remember Lynn through a donation to a charity of their choice.
