

Mildred Atta Young Gertson passed away on December 12, 2014 at the age of 94.
Mildred, nicknamed Milly, was born June 13, 1920 in Formoso, Kansas to her parents Roy and Etta Young. Milly grew up on a self-sustaining farm with her three sisters Mabel, Georgie, and June. Milly moved into Formoso during her high school years, living closer to town enabled her to graduate from high school and meet her future husband Robert Gertson. One of her first jobs was a telephone operator with the manual plug-in connectors and the ringer wall phones. Milly and Robert moved to Kansas City for job opportunities and along came their daughter Roberta. World War II changed their lives and directions. Robert being wounded in France was shipped to Fort Bliss El Paso, Texas. Milly endured daily visits to the hospital for several years, and raising Roberta. Their sons Roy and Rodger were born in El Paso. Milly began her life-long challenge as a full time stay-at-home mom. One of her challenges was taking intense care of young Roy when he contracted scarlet fever. Job opportunities in the late 1950’s with El Paso Natural Gas and Products Company transferred them to Odessa, Texas, beginning a new life on the cutting edge of oil products and the Odessa Chemical Complex. Milly and Robert remained in Odessa where they raised their three children. Milly was the best mom ever, and her forever love and caring for Robert, children, and grandchildren fulfilled her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mabel, Georgie, and June and her husband Robert. She is survived by her children, Roberta, Roy and Rodger; grandchildren, Tadd, Michael, Tuesday, and Jord; great-grandchildren, Shandy, Casey, Katherine, Lauren, Teagan, Tristan, and Emily; one great-great-grandchild, Madilynn. She is also survived by nephews, & nieces, Robert, Connie, Charlotte, and James along with their families.
A visitation will be 7:00 to 9:00 pm Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mary Beth Anton officiating.
