

Mildred (Land) Kennedy was born October 4, 1915 in Bowie, Texas to J. J. and Effie Land. She was the oldest of 10 children including 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She passed away quietly at her home in Odessa on Monday, August 15, 2011 at the age of 95.
Mildred met the eventual love of her life William Audry Kennedy in Levelland. Audry Kennedy and Mildred married on May 10, 1933. Mildred and Audry followed the oil field until they moved to Odessa in 1944. Mildred has always remained faithful to God and her church. Some of her fondest memories of her church life included being a Sunday School teacher. She usually taught Jr. boys or Jr. girls class and her former students went on to live for God and many are in the ministry today. At age 95 she continued to be a prayer warrior and was a person of faith.
She has always been known for her cooking abilities. She worked several years as a cook in school cafeterias. She was manager for one of the schools for several years. She headed up most of the fund raising dinners for the church for many years. The current kitchen at First Assembly is known as the “Mildred Kennedy Kitchen” in honor of her years of service.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, her favorite son-in-law, Roy McCandless, and 1 grandchild.
She is survived by two sons, William Audry Kennedy Jr. and his wife Mary of Brownwood, TX, Jack Kennedy of Odessa; two daughters, Margaret McCandless of Odessa and Gloria Thompson and her husband Paul of Odessa, two brothers, Manuel Land and wife Barbara, Bobby Land and wife Dolly; four sisters, Juanita Elswick, Jimmie Atkinson, Jo Ferguson and husband Buddy, Jean Allen and husband Gene, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 6 pm until 8 pm. A service celebrating her life will be at 10 am, Thursday, August 18, 2011 at First Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
