

Paul V. Olivas, died peacefully at home on May 3, 2017 following a courageous fight with cancer. He was born to Manuel Olivas Sr. and Leonora Vasquez Olivas on January 15, 1929 in Ft. Stockton, TX. He was raised in Shafter, TX during the Silver Mine Era. He moved to Odessa in 1941 with his family. He retired from the Miller Gold Printing Company where he worked for 23 years. He was an avid well known pool player and a Tournament of Champion first place winner and earned over 39 trophies. He was also a 20 year member of the Odessa Stars Semi-Pro Baseball team from 1946 to 1966. He played centerfield for the better part of 20 years. The mostly Hispanic team was started by Chino Chavez in the 1940’s. He was the last surviving member of the original team. He was a devout Christian and a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tony Olivas, Manuel Olivas Jr., sisters, Juana Gonzales, Jessie Leija, Amelia Garcia and infant daughter, Alicia Olivas. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Oralia (Lollie) Olivas, sons, Paul Olivas Jr. (Maria) of Moreno Valley CA, Max Olivas of Tempe, AZ, daughters, Linda Torres (Robert) of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Ono (BrIan) of Chandler, AZ, step-son, Edward (Ana) Contreras of Odessa, Step-daughter, Edna Villa (Armando) of Odessa, (16) grandchildren, (26) great-grandchildren, & (8) great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 10 am to 9 pm Thursday with a prayer service at 7 pm at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Friday, May 5, 2017 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Israel Zavala officiating. A special thanks to Home Hospice and his caregivers.
