Ruth was born April 5, 1916 to Robert A and Mary Bell Adcox in Stamford, TX. Ruth was raised in an oilfield town near Ranger and Breckenridge, TX.
Her family moved to a farm north of Weatherford, Texas in her teens. She was married and widowed at 18 when her husband was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm at the farm. She married M.A. "Doc" Roquemore in 1938, where she helped him in the trucking business hauling pipe and oilfield supplies to Odessa and West Texas. She sometimes helped driving and operating the winch on the trucks. They moved to Odessa in 1949 to where Doc started his welding business. In 1954 she opened and operated Ruths Beauty Shop for over 20 years. She became a member of Sherwood Baptist Church when it started in the early 50's, where she remained an active member until her death. Ruth was very active with the youth at Sherwood, traveling to church camp and trips with them. She loved to play piano for her Sunday School class until she was past 100.
Ruth was married to Doc for 38 years until his death in 1976. She later remarried C.P. 'Chuck" Amos of Lamesa and spent the next 25 years with Chuck, until his death in 2001 at age 90. They enjoyed traveling and belonged to many senior citizens groups wherever they went.
She was also an active member of the Eastern Star, serving many positions, including Worthy Matron. She was beloved by all her friends in each group. She enjoyed sewing for loved ones and quilting with ladies from the church. She kept her drivers license and drove herself until breaking a hip at age 98.
She was very active right up until her death, attending Prime Time with her daughter-in-law and Joy Club with her granddaughter-in-law and many friends to play Dominos and enjoy dining and visiting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bob Adcox, and her sister Ola Mae Phelps.
She is survived by her son, Ray Roquemore and wife Kathy of Odessa; her six grandsons, Calvin and his wife Kathy of Lubbock, Kelly and his wife Nikki of Odessa, Kevin and his wife Stacey of Plano, Randy of Odessa, Ryan and his wife Kerri of Odessa, and Rusty of Odessa; five great grandchildren, Ashlea, Shasta and husband Brandon, Tanner, Rock and his wife Baylea, and Hannah; four great great grandchildren, Carter, Devin, Adalynn, and Liam.
Visitation will be held at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home 6-8pm Thursday, March 15, 2018. Services will be held at Sherwood Baptist Church, Friday, March 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm to be conducted by Brother Ivy Shelton. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
