Sylvia Ann (Viscaino) Laughlin, 50, of Odessa, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at Hospice House in Odessa. These words found in II Timothy 4:6-8 aptly describe Sylvia’s life. “As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.”Despite a 2 year battle with cancer, Sylvia always had a smile on her face and a positive outlook on life. It was often said by those who came to visit her, that they would come to be an encouragment to her, but instead leave encouraged by her.She was born in Monahans. She was a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Terrace Hills Baptist Church of Odessa, Texas. She enjoyed crafts and sewing and spending times with friends and family.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Fred Laughlin of Odessa; her mother Santiaga Benton, and brothers, Johnny and Frank Viscaino, all of Grandfalls. She was preceded in death by her father Juan Viscaino.
The family wishes to thank the Hospice House for providing such wonderful care for the last part of Sylvia’s life; and special thanks to Wanda Corrales for her love, care, and dedication as Sylvia’s caregiver and good friend.
