Born on August 1, 1917 in Chanute, Kansas, Virginia’s family moved to Mounds, Oklahoma where she grew up with her three brothers, Jake, Johnny and Homer Pittman. She met and married John Curtis Colvin in 1938 and they eventually moved to the oilfields of Sundown, Texas. Together they raised their two children, Lunda and Butch, after moving to West Texas.

She was quick-witted, smart as a tack and could remember everything that was ever said or done with clarity and humor. She was a favorite resident at Deerings Nursing Home for almost 6 years, known for her honesty and feisty personality.
