On Wednesday, June 1, 2011 our Nana, Virginia Pearl McGuire lost a courageous battle with an acute brain tumor; a cancer that was unsurpassable. The tears of sorrow from today will be dried tomorrow by the hand of God with our belief that through Him we will once again rejoice with her in heaven.
Pearl was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma on March 29, 1934 to John Ray and Victoria Elizabeth Copley as the sixth of seven children. On January 10, 1953 she married the love of her life Bueford Ray McGuire. They began their 58 year journey through life living in various areas of Arizona and Texas, finally making Odessa their home in 1964.
Together they raised 3 children, creating a legacy that has grown to include 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Pearl was an active long-time member of Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God. She played a major role in operations for the family business, BM Machine Service, for more than 25 years, and took great pride in her duties as a fulltime homemaker. To add to her many accomplishments, she is known dearly by her family and friends as a “professional garage sale enthusiast.”
Many things will be missed about our Nana, most importantly some of our favorite foods from the kitchen like her famous popcorn balls and homemade biscuits and gravy. Also we will cherish the sounds of her notorious laughter and creative methods of interacting with the children.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John James, Jimmy Raymond, Tommy Walter, and Billy Joe; one sister, Ester Lee; and one grandchild, Jamie McKinney; two nephews; John and Walter Copley.
Her legacy continues with husband Bueford; children, Brenda McKinney, Dewayne McGuire and wife Shelly, and Ben McGuire; one sister, Lola Maness and husband Charles; five grandchildren, Jennifer Flud and husband Aaron, Scott McKinney and wife Maria, Danielle McGuire, Spencer and Makenna McGuire; four great-grandchildren, Brice Brown, Ella and Emily Flud, and Aurora McKinney; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends throughout the country.
Family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 pm on Saturday, June 4, 2011. Virginia Pearl McGuire’s treasured memories will be celebrated through a praise and rejoicing ceremony at 2 pm on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God; graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
As the family we would like to extend our deepest gratitude for all to the care given to our Nana by the compassionate personnel at both Manor Park Skilled Nursing facilities and Hospice House of Odessa.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or Hospice House of Odessa.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
