Alfred Erby Walker, 84, of OKC and formerly of Ft. Cobb passed peacefully from this life on December 5, 2018. Alfred was born on March 3, 1934 in Ft. Cobb, OK to Ruby and Wesley Walker. He was raised in Fort Cobb and attended school there. Following high school, he leased a local farm where he spent several years share-cropping. He later moved to Wichita where he was employed as a designer for Murray Lawn Mowers. In 1962 he transferred to Tupelo, Mississippi to manage the local Murray Lawn Mower Plant. By 1964, Alfred moved back to Oklahoma to accept a job with the Boecking Machinery, a Caterpillar dealership where he was employed as a mechanic working on heavy machinery. In 1971, Alfred married his soulmate Joan Marie Wall. He continued his career with Boecking , working his way up to the Maintenance Supervisor before his health made it necessary for him to retire in 1984.
Alfred was a witty and ornery guy who enjoyed making other smile. Alfred and Joan often traveled in their RV to Branson, Padre Island, and to Colorado. He was a family man who talked many of his friends and family into purchasing RV’s and campers so that they could all travel and spend time together. He spent years collecting knives, guns, and model cars. He also loved fishing, deer hunting, and doing yardwork. Alfred was very handy and could fix just about anything. Oftentimes he did yardwork with an old lawn mower that he purchased at a yard sale and fixed up.
Alfred was a loving and loyal husband to Joan for nearly 5 decades. They had a wonderful marriage and both loved each other as much or more on their last day together as they did on the day they were married. He was a protective father, a caring brother, a proud grandpa and great grandpa, a hardworking employee, and a trusted friend who will be missed by all those he leaves behind.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents Wes and Ruby Walker; a daughter Donna Walls; two brothers: Jerrett and Wesley T. Walker; a Son-in-law Raymond Eakins and daughter-in-law Cynthia Walker.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 47 years, Joan Walker; Nine children: Kenneth Walker, Wayne Walker and wife Debbie, Robin Eakins, Cynthia Lindsey and husband Raymond, Stacy Reed, Roy Walker and wife Kathy, Katherine Walker, Tina Graham and James Hood; a sister Dollie Shackelford and husband Eugene; 13 grandchildren: Kendell, Jason, Shane, Pamela, Hermilo, Nina, Christina, Lena, Brandy, Kevin, Bobby, Leean, and Gloria.
