

Allen G. Poppino was born in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Allen G. and Margaret Poppino. He received his BS in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1950. He attended further engineering graduate courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering at MIT. Al was a Licensed Professional Engineer in many states.
Allen was extremely active in many professional organizations associated with his long and impressive engineering career. Three in particular were very important to him: The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC); The International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC); and The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). In each of these organizations he participated not only as an active member but also as an influential leader at State, National and International levels. His involvement extended well beyond his retirement as he maintained close personal relationships with leaders of the engineering profession all across the nation and around the world. Allen’s career included his position as Chief Structural Engineer, President and Vice Chairman, The Benham Group.
Al enjoyed playing golf for many years and was a member of Quail Creek and Oklahoma City Golf and Country Clubs. He was on the Committee of 100 Oklahoma City, Inc., and was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Margaret Poppino. He is survived by his wife Barbara of the home; son Allen Poppino of Dallas, TX; daughter Susan Poppino of Ada, OK; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren as well as many extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special appreciation for all the caregivers with Epworth Home Health, Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice.
Visitation will be at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper on Monday 8 am- 8 pm. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., July 14, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel Ave. and interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Westminster Presbyterian Church, OSU Foundation, Mercy Hospice, or to the charity of your choice.
