

Alta Marcia Duncan Young Fuller was born March 29, 1918, near Duke OK, to James J. and Isobel Meehan Duncan, on land settled by her pioneer grandparents during the 2nd Oklahoma land run. She, and her twin sister Alva, spent their early years in Jackson County OK, where their father was an educator. Following graduation from Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, she married Ernest C. Young, a highly decorated World War II Army Air Corps fighter pilot, with whom she had 2 sons, Jim and Ernie. Following LTC Young’s death in 1944, she moved to Oklahoma City and in 1948 married G.M. Fuller, an Oklahoma City attorney. Alta and G.M. were married over 50 years, and produced a daughter, Teresa Ann, born in 1960. G.M. and Alta were well known and respected in Oklahoma City circles. They traveled widely and enjoyed an abundance of experiences together.
Alta had a great interest in history and won statewide recognition for her knowledge and writing on the personalities of the Civil War. Later in life she earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. She was active in many charitable and civic organizations to include board membership and leadership roles in the United Fund, Chi Omega Alumnae, Queensberry Dinner Club, the YWCA, Dig n’ Hope Garden Club, Oklahoma Heritage Association, Cowboy Hall of Fame, Friends of the Art Center, Mother’s Clubs for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Gamma Delta, Kappa Alpha Theta and many other organizations too numerous to mention. She was a member for over 60 years of both the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club and Nichols Hills United Methodist Church.
Alta Fuller was preceded in death by her sister Alva Duncan Card, her husband G.M. Fuller, and her son Ernie. In addition to her son COL (Ret) Jim Young and wife Jody of Pinehurst, NC, daughter Teresa Fuller of Altadena, CA and daughter-in-law, Marylyn Young of Albuquerque, NM., she is survived by her grandchildren BG James V. “Boe” Young of Fairfax Station, VA and his wife Valarie, LTC (Ret) Chad Young and wife Janine of Foristell, MO, Joshua Young of Richardson, TX; Andrew Young and wife Tina and Ryan Young of Albuquerque; and Emma and Avery Fuller-Monk of Altadena, CA. She also is survived by 8 great grandchildren: James III, Madeleine, Grace and Caroline Young of Virginia; Davis and Olivia Young of Missouri; and Simon and Abby Young of New Mexico; and numerous nephews, great nephews and nieces, and a large and loving extended family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. The family will be receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during that time at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper funeral home. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 26th at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nichols Hills United Methodist Church, Casady School or the charity of your choice.
