

Bette Anne (Ray) (Means) Dozier, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on October 26, shortly after celebrating her 90th birthday. Born on August 15, 1923, in Paris, Texas, Bette was the only child of Reldon Thomas Ray and Jewell Nelline (Sexton) (Ray) Cummings. She attended grade school in Muskogee, and junior high and early high school in Hominy. After junior year and early senior year in Ardmore, Bette graduated from high school in Mt. Vernon, IL, in 1941. She attended the Oklahoma College for Women in 1942. Bette was married to James W. Means from 1942 until 1974. In 1977, she married Russell William Dozier, Jr. During her career, Bette worked as an executive secretary for Kerr’s Inc., and as assistant vice president, branch manager, and loan officer for Continental Federal Savings & Loan. She also served as secretary-treasurer for The Dozier Company for 10 years. A talented cook, Bette enjoyed creating recipes and won many blue ribbons from the OK State Fair. At the request of family and friends, she published several cookbooks. After her husband’s death in 2007, Bette took great joy in attending a Bible study at New Hope Methodist Church with her close friend Melba Lovelace. She is survived by her two children---Pamela Ray (Means) Gilley and James Michael Means; two stepsons---Russell William Dozier, III and Charles Raymond Dozier; five grandchildren---Tiffany Zachry, Joshua Gilley, Jeremy Gilley, Samuel Means and Katelyn Means; two step-grandchildren---Sean Dozier and Thomas Dozier and four great-granddaughters---Madalen Zachry, Audra Zachry, Lola Means, and Ellis Gilley. Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Russell William Dozier, Jr.; her parents; and granddaughter Brooke Anne Gilley.
