He was born December 17, 1934 in Rolla, Kansas to Emmette L. Nichols (Pete) and Carrie L. (Sword). Bill was baptized in Christ at the First Baptist Church in Liberal, Kansas. He was a member of Westside Christian Church in Oklahoma City for many years.
Bill was a hard-working man, working as Area Superintendent for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company and Duke Energy for thirty-six years. During his time with both companies, he worked in many parts of Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Illinois. After retiring from his job in Seiling, Oklahoma on January 1, 1991, Bill spent a lot of the winter in Yuma, Arizona being park security as a patrol guard at an RV resort. He also decided he wanted to learn the computer, so he started taking lessons. After some time, the teacher said she was finished with him, and he wondered why. She said when her students get to where they ask questions that she couldn’t answer, it was time.
He and his wife, Mary, traveled during retirement to forty-eight states, parts of Mexico, and most of Canada. Bill enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with his extended family.
Though Bill will be greatly missed, he will be remembered through all the love and cherished memories that he has shared.
Bill Nichols was preceded in death by his parents Emmette and Carrie Nichols, his brother Clayton R. Nichols, sisters Elta Mae Nichols Davis and Patsy Kay Nichols Hoover, and two stillborn babies Billie Jean and Ronald Lee.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary Nichols, and their daughter Bonnie K. and spouse Keith L. Ankrom of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two grandchildren: Wesley L. and his spouse Michelle Keihn Ankrom of Yukon, Oklahoma, Shannon Ankrom of Yukon, Oklahoma, and great grandchildren: Elijah Ankrom and his fiancé Haley Brobston, Caleb Ankrom, Benjamin Ankrom, and Abigail Ankrom of Yukon, Oklahoma.
A memorial service for Bill will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Westside Christian Church, 10145 NW Expressway, Yukon, Oklahoma 73099.
