

Billy Odell Callaway, born September 12, 1931 in Oklahoma City, passed away May 29, 2014. He graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City before spending more than two decades of highly decorated service in the U.S. Navy, including tours in Korea and the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Bill traveled the world with the U.S. Navy and had countless stories of his experiences in Morocco, Scotland, Newfoundland, Hong Kong and more. Bill taught at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and later at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. Upon retiring from the Navy, Bill finished his working years managing Thermal Windows in Oklahoma City. Bill married JoAnn Hazer in 1961 and remained loyal and devoted to her for the rest of his life. His children and grandchildren were his greatest source of pride. He is survived by daughter Angel Miller (Sean), sons Chris Callaway (Eileen) and Terry Callaway (Candy), grandchildren Sami Miller, Jake Miller, Brock Callaway, Shannon Sinclair, Bobby Thomas, Jeff Callaway, Steven Callaway, Tommy Callaway, Ben Callaway, Nick Callaway, and Corie Naifeh, sisters-in-law Ruby Rahill and Lucy Shanbour, many nieces and nephews, friends, and family.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Lorraine and Jack Callaway, brother Jack Callaway, and son Sam Callaway and wife JoAnn Callaway. Bill will be remembered for his generous spirit, devotion to family and for always having a joke or a story for any situation, and for making the world's best chicken fried steak.
