

Bonnie Louise Hartzell was born 12 Dec 1948 near Seiling, Oklahoma. Her parents were Roy & Irene Hartzell. Roy and Irene were farmers, sewing seed, raising chickens and pigs and cows. Bonnie was the youngest of six children: Wayne, Curtis, Leon, Joyce, Ruth and Bonnie.
She attended Sharon-Mutual High School graduating as valedictorian in 1967.
Central College (now Central Christian College of Kansas) in McPherson, Kansas was Bonnie’s next destination, attending only one year before transferring to Southwestern State University in Weatherford, OK where she graduated at the top of her class!
After graduating with an accounting degree, she moved to the Oklahoma City area where she worked for a short while at the Oklahoma Board of Reagents. Later she was then employed at Standard Life Insurance and Casualty Company in Oklahoma city for over 20 years. When that company was purchased and relocated out of state, Bonnie began a long career working in accounting at the Oklahoma State Department of Health, It was from here that she eventually retired. She was also employed part time at H&R Block as a tax preparer.
Bonnie attended the Midwest City Free Methodist Church, playing piano for worship. Bonnie also served as the treasurer of the church for over 40 years.
Leon’s family always had a special lunch each Sunday and Bonnie was always weekly participant, providing her well known dinner rolls for each meal. Bonnie was also a gifted candy maker and for many years, provided her family members with chocolate fudge, bon bons, peanut brittle and divinity.
Bonnie’s work life centered around her skill with numbers, using her accounting skills both professionally and as a volunteer. She not only served as treasurer for her local church but also served as treasurer for the Mid-American Conference of the Free Methodist Church and the local professional organization for life insurance LLMI.
She was also a avid reader of books. Leon built shelves in Bonnie’s house to hold her extensive collection of romance novels as well as her relatively extensive collection bells.
Music played an important role as well. Bonnie enjoyed singing, particularly alto in church choirs, quartets and women’s ensembles, particular “Joyful Song, a ladies group at church.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Irene Hartzell of Guthrie, Oklahoma and her siblings Wayne, Curtis, Leon, Joyce and Ruth. She is survived by Doug and Karen Hartzell of Midwest City. Nancy and Roy Sherman of Sheboygan, WI. Neal and Lynn Hartzell of Terra Haute, IN. Stephen and Jeri Hartzell of Richmond Texas as well as other numerous nieces, nephews and multiple great-nieces/nephews and great great nieces/nephews
A visitation for Bonnie will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Free Methodist Church, 6500 E Reno Ave, Midwest City, OK 73110. A burial will occur Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N Midwest Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
Serving as pallbearers are Nathan Hartzell, Jeff Farley, Pete Miller, Doug Hartzell, Neal Hartzell and Stephen Hartzell.
