Camilla Marie Mendenhall was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Oklahoma City, OK. Camilla was born on December 13, 1951 in Long Beach, CA, to her parents, Charles Hayes McClure III and Viola F. McClure. In 1970, she met the love of her life, Stephen Jack Mendenhall and were married for 47 wonderful years. Camilla and Stephen later went on to start their family with the birth of their son, John Michael Mendenhall. Her most proud moments in her life were when her son, John, was born, as well as the birth of her grandchildren, Brooke, Lincoln, and Harrison.
She enjoyed decorating for the holidays, watching old movies and of course, OU football. Camilla received her bachelor’s degree from Southern Nazarene University and began her career as a children’s pastor for 27 years. Her greatest achievements were when she took positions as in the District Children’s Ministry, became a Children’s Camps Director, and ultimately, a licensed Minister for Lakeview Park Church of the Nazarene and Oklahoma City First Church of the Nazarene.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charles H. McClure III and her husband’s parents, Jack and Ann Mendenhall.
Camilla is survived by her mother, Viola F. McClure (Richardson); husband, Stephen J. Mendenhall; son, John M. Mendenhall and wife, Ashley of Yukon, OK; brothers, Chuck McClure and wife, Monica of Oklahoma City, OK and Stephen McClure and wife, Donna of Bethany, OK; sister, Susan Thanscheidt and husband, Garry of Bethany, OK; brother-in-law, Don Mendenhall and wife, Carla; and sister-in-law, Connie Musgrave. Camilla also leaves behind three grandchildren, four nieces and ten nephews to cherish her memory.
A memorial service in honor of Camilla’s will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Park Church of the Nazarene, 3500 N.W. 50th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73112. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lakeview Park’s Children’s Ministry.
