Carol graduated from Classen High School in 1947 and from Oklahoma A&M College (now OSU) in 1951, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. During college, she was very active in the Baptist Student Union, where she met the love of her life and future husband of 62 years, Edwin Koop.
Carol and Ed married on December 22, 1951, and made their home in Oklahoma City. Together they raised two children, Alan and Kim. Carol cherished her time with family and friends so much and enjoyed game nights with Ed and several other couples as a part of the “Bridge Group” which lasted over 50 years. She enjoyed baking desserts and always made sure there was some sort of sweet snack in the house for Ed and her children. Carol and Ed loved to travel and sight see as often as they could, including destinations across the United States and Europe. Carol always stayed busy with family, friends, travel, baking, volunteer work, and her career, but she never missed the opportunities to be kind and put others before herself. These qualities, along with her loving nature, big heart, and smiles, will be her legacy that we will always remember.
Carol was a pre-school teacher at First Christian Church for many years. She was also a faithful member of Baptist Temple church for 70 years. Her love of Jesus and respect for literature led her to expertly oversee the church library, making it a place that drew in members to check out the books she carefully chose for the church. She also taught many children in Sunday School and enjoyed humbly serving her church family in many ways. In addition to her years of admirable service with the church, Carol also found the time to volunteer at Integris Baptist Hospital for 42 years, including serving as President of the auxiliary.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Gladys, her husband Ed, her brother Glenn and his wife Joan. She is survived by her son Alan and his children Jason and Hana; her daughter Kim; her sister-in-law Luella Burtz; and other loving family members including one niece and two nephews.
The family of Carol would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Southern Plaza for their excellent and loving care for Carol during the last years of her life.
