Clee grew up working at his father’s Conoco gas station in downtown Madill. He attended Oklahoma State University for three years.
He married Clarice Lee Wynne on January 1, 1959. He worked at a 7-Eleven for a short time, then with Fred Spitts, drafting for $2.00 an hour. He began working at ODOT in 1974 and remained there for 37 years.
He received his surveyor’s license (#748) on May 23, 1969, and his engineering license (#2388) on May 15, 1981.
He oversaw the review of farm and market roads for Rural Urban Design across all Oklahoma counties. When his supervisor retired, Clee asked if they were refilling the position and was told, “If you want it, you got it.” He became Assistant to Urban Design, and eventually, Head of Urban Design. During his time at ODOT, he helped design Hefner Parkway and I-240, projects he was very proud of. Over the years, he contributed to the creation of many roads throughout Oklahoma.
After retiring from ODOT in 1998, Clee worked for Carter Burgess for three years, and later part-time for FBS for two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life, Clarice, in 2013; his sister, Clara Gelene Campbell; and his brother, Mark Q. Turbyfill.
He is survived by his son, Chris, and wife, Pam Turbyfill, and their four children: Jared and his wife Leighann, and their sons Logan and Patrick; Tyler; Craig and his wife Rachel, and their children Brennon, Jackson, and Chandler; and Jae and her husband Heath, and their daughter Avery.
He is also survived by his daughter, Cleeta Chambers, and her three children: Wes and his wife Holly, and their daughter Logan; Karen and her husband Eric, and their children Ava, Wyatt, and Ryder; and Katie Chambers.
Clee enjoyed fishing and hunting. He participated in bass fishing tournaments each year while Chris and Cleeta were growing up. He and Chris hunted deer annually and even went elk hunting together. He and Cleeta would wake up early on Saturdays to go fishing, sharing many adventures over the years.
Clee loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When he went to church, he always had mints to help keep the little ones quiet.
He will always be remembered for his signature phrase: “Glad you got to see me.” We are glad we got to see him, too. We will miss you, Daddy.
To honor Clee’s memory, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
