Dimitrios Elias Smirlis

Dimitrios Elias Smirlis fell asleep in God’s hands on Feb. 21, 2020. Dimitrios was born on Jan. 28, 1951 in Kefalari Korinthias, Greece to Elias and Fotini Smirlis. He graduated high school from Velo Korinthias in Greece where he played soccer. Dimitrios worked with his brother tending olive trees, orange trees, and the vineyard. He came to the United States with his sister Mary in 1977. He worked with his family for a few months and then bought his own Coney Island. He proudly ran his business with a warm welcome, home cooked chili, and a happy smile.

Dimitrios courted his Greek village sweetheart over holidays and breaks. On Jan. 13, 1990, he married the love of his life, Anastasia Anagnostopoulou, and brought her with him to Oklahoma City. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and loved his community.

Dimitrios enjoyed family gatherings, Greek dancing, horse racing at Remington Park, and playing cards. He was blessed with two loving boys, Elias Dimitrios, and Christos Dimitrios. The joy of his life was spending family time building Legos, playing ball, swimming, grilling, watching sports, and watching his sons play soccer. The family spent many vacations in Greece. He touched many with his kindness, generosity, and charming personality.

Dimitrios is survived by his wife of 30 years, Anastasia, sons, Christos and Elias, his daughter Alexis Lees, brother, Athanasios, sisters, Mary and Chrisanthy, and his father and brother-in-law, Christos and Konstantinos Anagnostopoulou. He is blessed with nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and a host of friends.

A Trisagion Service will be held at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73116 at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2020. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 2101 N.W. 145th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73134. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
