

Don Cassel was born on the family farm in Graham Co., Kansas to Henry and Twyla Cassel on December 21, 1929. He graduated from Hill City, Kansas High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry from what is now Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Corporal Donald Cassel was honorably discharged from the United States Army, Camp Hanford, WA at the end of the Korean War.
Don worked on the family farm before starting his lifetime career in the oil and gas business when he hired on with Baroid Drilling Fluids in 1955. He worked for Baroid until he retired at the age of 60, only to be rehired two years later as a consultant working on Alaska’s North Slope in Prudoe Bay, a job he found the most rewarding of his entire career. He was a lifetime member of the Hill City Masonic Lodge and also became a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite in Guthrie, OK.
Don was preceded in death by both his parents and many aunts and uncles who he loved very much.. He’s survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Cassel of their home, his step-daughters Stacy (Kyle) Hasley and Courtney Ballard; Grandchildren Dustin (Parker) Hasley, Jordan Hasley and Isabella Ballard, and including his brothers-in-law, Frank Butcher, Garry (Jennifer) Butcher and Bruce (Vicki) Butcher. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Faye (Earl) Grindle, niece and nephews Cheryl Grindle (Eric) McKnight, Doug (Cindy) Grindle and Greg Grindle, and their children.
Donald Cassel was an honest and honorable man, a true gentleman who led a full and rich life and was loved and respected by all who knew him. The family would like to thank for their faithful and spiritual care the clergy of All Souls' Episcopal Church, namely Fr. Christopher Yoder and Fr. Graham Marsh and also Mr. Jim Case for his faithful and unwavering friendship for many years.
A memorial service and interment of ashes will be in the church proper at All Soul’s on November 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the church Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the church in Donald Cassel’s memory.
