Donald Wayne “Jesse” James, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on May 1, 2026. Born on March 25, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jesse was the son of Vera Loreen Postlewaite James and Lester Archie James. His life was marked by service, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.
Jesse proudly served in the United States Navy, retiring in 1977 as a Chief Petty Officer after a distinguished career. Following his military service, he continued his hardworking legacy at General Motors, where he spent 20 years as a millwright before retiring. He loved RV’ing and was a devout Christian. His dedication, discipline, and strong work ethic were evident in everything he did.
For 39 years, Jesse built a home filled with love, laughter, and resilience. He shared his life with his beloved wife of 40 years, Phyllis James, and together, they raised a family that was his greatest pride.
Jesse is survived by his children: Donald “Jesse” James and wife Mary, Jennifer James Guidry and husband Nathan, Anthony “Tony” James, Gervaise Kevin Brown and wife Janella, and Regina Schulz, his siblings Jean Mears, Joyce Sanders, Frank James, Jimmy James
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sheryl “Sherry” James. His sons Charles “ Chuck” Brown and David Brown. His sisters Lou Ann Stafford, Billye Jo Ramer, and Becky Sue James and brother John James
Jesse leaves behind a large and loving legacy, including 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchild, all of whom carry forward his strength, humor, and spirit.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 7th at 2PM, where family and friends will gather to honor a man who gave so much of himself to his country, his work, and—most of all—his family.
Jesse will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep loyalty, and the quiet but powerful way he shaped the lives around him. His legacy lives on in the family he raised and the countless moments of love he shared
