Donna Lee Phillips was born December 11, 1955 to Kenneth D. Phillips Jr. and Donalda Mummert, in Upper Darby PA. The daughter of a career enlisted Navy father, Donna moved to North Charleston, SC at age five. Donna graduated from R.B. Stall High School in North Charleston in 1973.
On May 31, 1975 Donna married Manning L. Masche, Jr. of North Charleston, SC. In 1980 Manning enlisted in the United States Air Force and thus began a journey that would take her across the globe.
On March 4, 1983 their son David was born at McGuire Air Force Base New Jersey.
In June of 1988 at Altus Air Force Base Oklahoma, Donna accepted Christ as her Savior. Life as a Christian was exciting, wondering what God had in store next for her life.
On January 8, 2005 her son married Crystal Maynard and she took on the role of Mother-In –Law. Donna never liked the in-law part since she never saw Crystal as an in-law, but rather as a “daughter”. Donna and Crystal quickly developed a special relationship that strengthened a family.
Then on November 4, 2006 she took on the new role of Grandma as the first of her three grandchildren was born.
Donna enjoyed many things, but most of all she enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. She loved to be outside working in a flower garden, watching birds or just seeing what nature had under the next leaf. Donna taught David how to love the outdoors and began to pass that on to her grandchildren. Crystal said, “Mom Masche was the perfect grandma for little boys.”
She was an avid reader. She especially loved reading her Bible. She enjoyed reading to her son and instilled in him a love for literature. Later, she passed on that some love to her grandchildren.
On June 16, 2012, after a long battle with cancer, Donna slipped into eternity to be with her Lord and Savior. Donna is survived by her husband Manning, her son David, “daughter” Crystal and three grandsons: Daven, Dawson and Dean; as well as, her siblings Kenny, Dawn, Kelly, and Kathy (Chopper).
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel, 8805 NE 23rd St., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with Pastor Jack Tenney officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, Oklahoma.
