Dorothy Louise Singleton passed away on May 16, 2012. She was born February 26, 1921 in Oklahoma City to Wiley Earl and Grace Kissel Ecton. She attended Harding Junior High and graduated from Classen High School in 1938. Dorothy continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1942 with a degree in Social Work. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In January 1946, her older brother Bob had returned from World War II and had malaria. He was admitted to St. Anthony Hospital and a first year resident named Harry Singleton was assigned to the case. This was the beginning of an incredible loving relationship for 61 years. After marrying on October 5, 1946, they resided in Oklahoma City for two years. In 1949, they moved to Cleveland for a year so that Harry could complete a fellowship in cardiology, next was a stint in the Navy which included stops in Guam and Bethesda Naval Hospital. They returned to Oklahoma City in 1951.
Dorothy was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, hostess and friend. She loved to cook and so enjoyed hosting intimate dinners for friends. Amazingly she played tennis twice a week into her eighties. Her spiritual life was quite important. Raised as a Southern Baptist, she was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She served as a deacon and faithfully worked the information booth on Sundays for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Wiley and Grace Ecton, husband Harry Singleton, and brother W.R. Bob Ecton. She is survived by son Harry Singleton, Jr. and wife Patti, granddaughters Allison Singleton, and Jenny Pillar and husband Doug. The family would like to thank Epworth, and Dr. Brad Marian for the wonderful care, and the many friends who were so kind to visit her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts to the Urban Mission 3636 N. Portland or Westminster Presbyterian Church. A celebration of the amazing life of Dorothy will be held Monday, May 21, 11:00 A.M. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
